What's your stance on Environmental issues, including Recycling and the packaging you use?

Mothercare sources product from around the world, but predominantly China and India. Trading in developing countries has become an essential part of our business strategy and brings with it many benefits for us and our customers as well as benefiting the developing country. It also brings with it an increased level of responsibility for labour standards and human rights issues in our supply chain which we share with our suppliers. At Mothercare we feel as passionately about these issues as we know many of our customers do.

Mothercare has a code of practice for supply chain standards, based on the Ethical Trading Initiative's Base Code. We have been a member of the ETI since 2002. The Code applies to all of our suppliers around the world, not just those in developing countries. Our Code sets high standards and we encourage factories to work towards full compliance with the principles outlined in our Code.

As a minimum we expect suppliers to meet the legal requirements in the country in which they are based. We try to be sensitive to the local circumstances and culture in the countries where our products are made and understand that it takes time to bring about sustainable change.
